Aluminum alloy 6 series overview and characteristics
Aluminum alloy 6 series is based on magnesium and silicon as the main alloying elements and phase reinforced with Mg2Si, belonging to the heat treatment and strengthened aluminum alloy. The aluminum alloy has the advantages of medium strength, high corrosion resistance, good welding performance, constant corrosion resistance in the welding area, good formability and processability. When the alloy contains copper, the strength of the alloy can be close to 2 series, the process performance is better than aluminum alloy 2 series, but the corrosion resistance deteriorates, the alloy has good forging performance. 6061 and 6063 alloy is the most widely used of aluminum alloy 6 series, they have the best overall performance, the main product is extruded profiles, that is the best extrusion alloy, the alloy is widely used by aluminium profile manufacturers as building profiles.
Currently using widely aluminum alloy 6 series are:6005, 6060, 6061,6063, 6082, 6201, 6262, 6463, 6A2,. Now let’s descript their respective uses.
6005 extruded profiles and pipes for structures requiring strength greater than 6063 alloy, such as ladders, television aerials, etc.
6009 used for car body panels.
6010 sheet: car body.
6061 used a variety of industrial structures which required have certain strength, high weldability and high corrosion resistance, such as for the manufacture of trucks, tower buildings, ships, trams, furniture, machine parts, pipes, rods etc.
6063 widely used for the industrial profiles and building profiles, the best extruded material for vehicles, benches, furniture, fencing, etc.
6066 extruded materials for forgings and welded structural.
6070 extruded materials and tubes for heavy duty welded structures and automotive industry.
6101 used for the bus with high-strength rods, electricals conductors and the cooling equipment.
6151 for forging crankshaft parts, machine parts and production of rolling ring, both of them required good malleability, high strength, but also have good corrosion resistance.
6201 fitted the high strength conductive and wire.
6205 used heavy plate, pedal and high impact extrusion.
6262 threaded, high-stress parts that require better corrosion resistance than the 2011 and 2017 alloys.
6351 the extrusion structure of vehicles, water, oil and other pipeline.
6463 construction and various equipment profiles, as well as after the anodized bright surface of the car trim.
